Adoptee Theresa Carroll of East Islip, NY, hugs her husband Tim Carroll when they finally get a quiet moment following Theresa receiving her birth certificate at the end of a press conference held at the State House in Trenton commemorating passage of the NJ Adoptees' Birthright Act.
Carroll her birth certificates at the press conference. "And also a lot of good."Her mother shared information that enabled Carroll to find a half-brother on her father's side, who invited Carroll to his home, the same one in which he'd grown up with their father.
And yet, her birth mother had no curiosity about Carroll's life. She gave one of her two daughters the same name she had given Carroll.
Of the two half-siblings, only one met Carroll briefly.

We facilitate peer support by creating a space for “kids to be kids” through a variety of methods including play, music, art, drama, and reflective sharing.
Because grief is a beneficial reaction to death, we do not believe that there is a problem to be “fixed,” but rather a new reality to learn to live with.
"Even if I never see her again, it was beautiful," Carroll said.
